December 20, 2001
Dear Patch Collector:
In response to the tragic events of September 11, 2001, the members
of the Hudson Police Association, Inc. have voted to place strict control
over the distribution of Department patches.
Police patches, badges and insignia, if placed in the hands of
those intending to do harm to others, could assist individuals in gaining
access to restricted and controlled areas.
Despite these threats, we will continue to provide patches to
collectors that fulfill certain requirements.
We will furnish patches for $3.00 each to those who can provide us
with documentation that would verify their identity, good character and/or
ties to law enforcement agencies. We
now require that all law enforcement personnel submit a patch request on
Department letterhead. All
others interested in a patch from this Department must acquire a letter
from the office of the chief law enforcement officer in the community
verifying the good character of person requesting the patch.
In both of the circumstances described above, a member of the
Hudson Police Association will likely call the Department and verify the
information received.
We recognize that patch collecting is an enjoyable hobby for many
individuals and regret that we must limit access to our patches. We trust that you understand how important it is for us to do
our part in ensuring the safety of all Americans.
Sincerely,
The Members of the Hudson Police Assoc., Inc.
